Yahoo has revealed that up to 3 billion user accounts were hacked in 2013, tripling the number it said were affected by what was already the largest user data breach in history. The company previously said that up to 1 billion accounts were hacked in 2013, in addition to 500 million accounts being hacked in a separate incident in 2014.

The United States Federal Communications Commission has urged Apple to activate the FM (frequency modulation) chips that are in iPhone to promote public safety. Commission Chairman Ajit Pai released a statement applauding those companies that have "done the right things" by activating FM chips in their phones in light of natural disasters hammering the country.

The European Commission is taking Ireland to the European Court of Justice for failing to recover from Apple illegal state aid worth up to €13 billion, as required by the Commission's August 2016 decision. EU Member States have to recover illegal state aid within the deadline set by the Commission, which is usually four months.

ADVA Optical Networking announced that it has successfully completed a joint field trial of its FSP 3000 CloudConnect and OpenFabric technology in Telefónica Germany's live network. The innovative transport solution achieved disaggregated 100, 150 and 200Gbit/s connectivity over the mobile communication provider's existing 10Gbit/s line system. The high-density 1RU modular DCI technology successfully carried alien wavelengths across the national backbone infrastructure with no impact on live traffic, including error-free 200Gbit/s transmission over a 290km data path. The test demonstrated how the ADVA FSP 3000 OpenFabric creates an agile, flexible and highly scalable network, accelerating service availability and improving operational efficiency. It was conducted with the support of ADVA Optical Networking's Elite partner Axians.
