Saudi Telecom Company (STC) reported an annual net profit increase of 14.3% compared to the previous year, for the period ending 31 December 2017, to reach SR 10,174m. Gross profit for the year reached SR 29,555m, an increase of 3% compared to the previous year. STC CEO Dr. Khaled Biyari touted the company's cost optimization initiatives and the shift in its strategy with a clear focus towards digitization.

UAE telecom provider du (Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company) announced it has partnered with Abu Dhabi Media (ADM) and launched a new television channel: NatGeo Kids Abu Dhabi. Talks of a possible merger deal between Deutsche Telekom and Orange have now officially ended after both entities failed to reach agreement. The two telecommunication firms engaged in protracted discussions between May and September but ultimately failed to strike a deal.

A Lagos high court in Nigeria ordered the board of the operator's parent company, Emerging Markets Telecommunications Service (EMTS), to disband, after a judge claimed it had been established without authority.
