Tourists over the age of 18 visiting the Dubai emirate in the UAE will be given a free du Sim card from officers at passport control in Dubai International Airport.

Tourists will no longer have to worry about trying to find Wi-Fi or pay expensive roaming charges.

The Sim cards are pre-paid and contain three flexi-minutes of phone calls along with a 20 MB mobile data package for three days.

Travellers will also be able to top-up their Sim cards with a variety of packages depending on their consumption and the duration of their stay in the country.

This initiative is part of a happiness project which is led by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs  in collaboration with one of the country’s national operators, du as well as Smart Dubai.

The passengers’ travel information will be linked to the Sim card details. This initiative will function in all three terminals of the airport.

“This project aims to contribute to the achievement of Dubai happiness agenda, which is being implemented by Dubai Smart, to make Dubai visitors experience a smooth and enjoyable experience during their visit to the city,” said the Director of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs, Major General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri.
