Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), a leading mobile and data service provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has awarded Nokia a contract to modernize and optimize its IP and optical networks.
Nokia's next-generation routing and transport platforms will add flexibility, agility and capacity to Mobily's networks to address the growing bandwidth demands of its subscribers. The solution will be deployed in the Central, Eastern and Northern parts of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Ahmed Aboudoma, Chief Executive Officer at Mobily, said, "This modernization prepares Mobily for 5G technology, quicker expansion of services, and gives our customers enhanced service quality. Nokia will add intelligence to the network in order to meet future requirements, and enable self-correction that will channel bandwidth and capacity where needed for improved customer experience. Nokia's IP and optical technology will help us manage the diverse traffic demands arising from consumption of 4G and cloud services."
Nokia's Software Defined Networking (SDN) solution will enable Mobily to address the future bandwidth needs of upcoming technologies like 5G, Cloud Radio Access Network (RAN) and front haul technologies.
Mobily will use Nokia's products in its network in Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) and Dense Wavelength and Division Multiplexing (DWDM) layers to make the existing network software controlled to reduce complexity, which in turn will allow it to enhance flexibility and agility. This will make it easier for Mobily to scale quickly and will ensure a faster rollout of new services.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is witnessing an increase in mobile data traffic. Service providers, like Mobily, are modernizing their networks to meet the demand for added capacity and enhance operational efficiency to deliver superior services to their subscribers.
