5G World MENA 2016, in its 6th consecutive year, took place at the Conrad Hotel in Dubai from May 9-11. It was the meeting point for operators and vendors across the region looking to develop and evolve their LTE networks, and map out the future road to 5G. The 5G & LTE MENA Awards recognized the fastest, most innovative operators and vendors in the region.

Buildings are important to us; we spend a large portion of our lives inside buildings. Indeed, the Royal Institute of British Architects has stated that we spend an average of 20 hours each day inside commercial or residential buildings. As the planet's population continues to expand beyond the current seven-and-a-half billion people, so too will the buildings in which we live and work. They will naturally become more numerous but also more dense (people per area) as land value increases. Estimates for the total number of buildings in the world vary, but a rough estimate is that there are at least one billion buildings across the world. Whichever way we slice and dice the data, it is clear that buildings, particularly those in which we work, are a vital part of our lives.

The 2016 Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) Global Mobile Data Traffic Forecast reported that global mobile data traffic already grew a total of 74 percent in 2015. It had reached 3.7 exabytes per month at the end of 2015, which is a figure up from the 2.1 exabytes per month at the end of 2014. This shows that mobile data technology has been growing consistently and has escalated 4000-fold over the past 10 years.

Fixed broadband services have seen increasing speeds in the last few years across the Middle East, with Gulf countries leading the way in delivering high speed connectivity along with a host of broadband-based services such as TV and gaming channels.

The inaugural 5G MENA Awards, taking place on May 10 at the Conrad, Dubai, will provide the opportunity to celebrate the growth and innovation within the region's market. The very first 5G & LTE MENA Awards 2016 is an opportunity to praise, recognize and endorse the best in the industry - those leading the way in 5G research, product development and network architecture.

The International CES (Consumer Electronics Show), the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies, completed successfully with mind-blowing technology and inspiring innovations.

Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), formerly the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), CES 2016, took place between 6 and 9 January, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Spanning the largest exhibit floor in the show's 49-year history, with 2.4 million net square feet of exhibit space and featuring more than 3,600 exhibitors who unveiled new products, including a record of 500 startups, the event kicked off with keynotes from the leaders of Netflix, GM and IBM.
