OpenAI, the creator of the popular artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT, has said that it will distribute 10 equal grants from a $1 million fund earmarked for studies in democratic processes to explore how AI software can best address biases and other concerns.

According to a blog post announcing the fund, the $100,000 scholarships will be given to candidates who propose persuasive frameworks for addressing issues, including whether AI should criticize public figures and what it should consider the "median individual" around the globe.

Critics claim that because of the inputs utilized to form their opinions, AI systems like ChatGPT have an inherent bias. Users have discovered instances of racist or sexist outputs from the AI software.
