Last week, I was at MWC in Shanghai and 5G was at the center of all  discussions. The main vendors for 5G innovation - from Huawei and ZTE, to Nokia and Ericsson - were present at full capacity to show 5G’s capabilities and what to expect in the near future. It was a real 5G special edition by the GSMA!

The 5G recipe
Everyone is awaiting the full advent of 5G as it will provide the best capacity for all IoT devices such as smart sensors in all fields: health, artificial intelligence testing, smart agriculture, education, public security, utilities, smart meters, video surveillance, self-driving car, cars for disabled people and much more. Most importantly, with 5G, all applications will take place in real time, with no latency.

Some 5G devices are already available from Huawei and other Chinese handset/smartphone manufacturers. WiFi smart routers and smart sensors are also now available.

5G ready: Asia is leading

There is no doubt that Asia is the most ready for 5G. And it’s not just about commercial announcements, but consumers have already started enjoying 5G speeds and ultra-connectivity, and the intelligent connectivity driving smart devices.
