The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) in Saudi Arabia has tendered two new mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) licenses to the Saudi telecom operators, according to an official statement.

CITC published an RFA document inviting applications for licensing MVNOs in a bid to promote healthy competition between operators as set out in the Telecommunications Act.

“By licensing MVNOs, the CITC aims to promote the achievement of the objectives set out in the Telecommunications Act, which requires providing the climate appropriate for fair and active competition and encouraging it in all telecom fields through the provision of advanced and adequate mobile services at affordable prices and kindling the competition by providing more options for users of communications and information technology services in KSA.”

The statement added that the licenses will likely enhance employment opportunities and encourage investment across the industry.

“[This will lead] to provision of more innovative and diverse bundles and improvement of customer care services, in addition to creating new jobs and opening new areas of investment in this vital sector.”

The Commission invited interested parties to submit competition applications to obtain the license in accordance with the requirements mentioned in the document published on its website no later than 10th May 2020.
