Mr. Toni Eid, founder of Telecom Review and CEO of Trace Media, and Mr. Hatem Dowidar, CEO, Etisalat International took part in a debate this morning at Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit 2019. The topic of the discussion was '5G serving societies'.

The pair looked ahead at EXPO 2020, due to begin in October next year. Toni Eid asked Etisalat International’s CEO about EXPO 2020 and if Etisalat are ready to serve the millions of people who will be attending the six-month-long event next year. Dowidar announced that Etisalat will be providing the network and that they are already preparing for the influx of visitors.

He said: "We have tested the network at large events, such as football stadiums. It is proven that the network can provide coverage to mass amounts of people over a huge area, and so I am very confident about this."

The two also discussed the difference felt by the consumer in the transformation from 4G to 5G. Mr. Hatem Dowidar said that consumers won't notice a huge difference, unless through high definition broadcast and video content.

"People are enjoying more and more high-definition video content. This will increase demand and customers will enjoy this with much lower latency. The consumer will feel that when they upgrade to 5G. The main difference is that even with more people and more devices connected in a small area, 5G will provide adequate coverage."
